Welcome to
Washington Birder
newsletter

Volume 1-15, 1993-2007

In 1992, Scott Ray and Ken Knittle began Washington Birder newsletter as an additional resource for birders interested in adding to their state and county lists and at the same time contributing to the knowledge of Washington's bird distribution. The primary thrust of the newsletter was to promote birding exploration of the entire state by publishing site guides to lesser known and under-birded places in the state, to document bird occurrence and abundance with the development of county checklists for all 39 counties and to provide a place where annual list total reports could be published. The first issue of Washington Birder was a six page, stapled, black-and-white photocopied newsletter that included an introduction to the newsletter, a site guide, a Washington State Checklist, a list of Rare Birds of Washington, a "1992 Washington Listing Report Form", and a column on "Recent Sightings" of rare regional birds. Volume 15, 2007 concluded publication of the printed format of Washington Birder newsletter and began the introduction of features from the newsletter to this website. If you were a newsletter subscriber, we are sure you will find this enhanced indices useful.
